I'm not really that brave, it's just that I didn't have
a choice - it appears to have worked fine - I am now
able to connect using the GUI tool.

seems to have done the trick...
Thanks again for your help - I'm not sure if we'll be keeping up the work
with MySQL, since the PHBs don't seem that interested.
I might fool around with it a bit on my own though.
