dos clipper=> mysql +??

Hi;

Does mySql run under Dos? I have an old dos database written in Clipper. with simple 
user interface. I am looking for a language which can programe a new database in 
combination with mySQL. On condition is that: It must be in text-mode enviroment. 
mySql run under Linux. It seems that I have to choose C++. Is there C++api libery 
which can reach mySQL function and also an C++ libery like in Clipper withwhich you 
can make input field, menu, list ....simplely.
