Question:
---------
Can mysqld --skip-grant-tables --bootstrap ... be run on a *live* system
(with a regular mysqld server running) or can this cause data corruption.

Info:
-----
We are working on a Linux server project aimed at schools. We try to provide
(in this order):
- easy administration
- security
- performance

Offsite users (users without shell account) are in a MySQL database. This is
why some servers require a MySQL username. It is a security policy to allow
only ReadOnly access and only to the needed data for every server. Thus every
server has its own username.

Package installation scripts for servers that require MySQL access have to:
- prompt for root password (bad becouse of automated upgrades)
- stop MySQL and run mysqld --skip-grant-tables --bootstrap ... (bad becouse
of interruption in service)

Storing root password in a file is *not* an option!
