i had the same problem
chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql
and i created a symlink from /tmp to the /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
and restarted mysql and wammo it worked.. I used this on one computer on
the advice for Error 2002: ... .... ... mysql.sock(2) error.
