Hi

I have downloaded MySQL, carefully following the instructiopns in the
documentation. I have tried to install it on a Compaq Armarda Laptop running
windows 2000.

It would appear that some corruption is taking place, even though I have not
used a download accelerator.

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --basedir c:\mysql
c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt: Can't change dir to 'C:\m\data\' (Errcode: 2)
010912 12:14:02 Aborting

010912 12:14:02 c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt: Shutdown Complete

and again here

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --standalone

c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt: Fatal error: Can't find messagefile
'C:\m\share\english\
errmsg.sys'

C:\>

As you can see, the path is becomming corrupted and remains so even when it
is overridden with the basedir directive

Also, when installed as a service, it points to c:\m\bin\mysql-shareware.exe

Can you suggest what I may be doing wrong?
