I'm sorry if I'm bothering people, some times I get the feeling that I am, so please let me know if I'm out of line.
So now I've figured out that I need to use the skip-show-database option which I have added to the my.cnf file under [mysqld]. When I do this now and log in using MySQLGUI as any other user other than root I get access denied.
