Funny I still have the same exact problem Egor does. I start mysql with safe_mysqld, same only server just ends. I do safe_mysqld & nothing, I use mysqld -r root -p <password>
Nothing I do, that is listed helps. I still have no mysql.sock, and the server never starts.
