Well, I had a similar question about the Japanese error messages. It seems
the tool mentioned in the manual was not in the binary distribution, and
wasn't in the MSWindows source distribution, either. I happened to be
installing openbsd dual boot on this machine anyway, so I got the source
distribution and installed it in the openbsd system and used the tool under
openbsd.

I understand that the tool, comp_err.exe (see manual section 4.6.2) has now
been added to the Windows source and binary distribution, but I haven't
looked. Of course, you could always use this as your excuse for getting into
*NIX. ;->

Hmm.  Shot in the dark, but you aren't by any chance trying to put your
my.ini file on your d: drive, are you?
