Egor - Question 1:
I located where mysql.sock is located - /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock - NOT /tmp. However, it is a symbolic link. Shouldn't there be an actual file in addition to the symbolic link? Linux is very new to me, so I am not up to speed on many of the intricacies. Question 2: There is not a my.cnf file on my system. How do I determine where mysql is looking for my.cnf so that I can create one in that location? Many thanks.....
