Jeff,
You are probably getting line wrap. Adjust the screen width of you
DOS window by selecting the black "C:" icon in upper left of window and
select "Properties". Go to the layout tab and set the window size width to
132 or even 255. This should solve the wrapping. You may also want to
increase the screen buffer height so you can scroll back more lines.
For a free Windows GUI, try MySQLFront from
http://www.anse.de/mysqlfront/. There is also PhpMyAdmin for remote access
from http://www.phpmyadmin.net/.
