First, thanks for the patience and the help I've been getting. I'm at
this point.
I think this is where I'm getting stuck at
-p[password], --password[=...]
Password to use when connecting to server
If password is not given it's asked from the tty.
not sure what to type when I get to this point
[root /]# mysqladmin -u root password mynewpassword
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)'
this is after typeing the skip grants command
