Here's a trivial example. Run something like this out of cron every
night.
--- cut
#!/bin/sh
DATE=`/bin/date +%Y-%m-%d`
mysqldump -u root -p [password] --all-databases --opt > \
/path/to/large/partition/backup_${DATE}.sql
