Having done some further work (I re-built using 3.23.51) I have managed to have the server startup and run, however I am still experiencing the :
020814 15:25:48 /usr/local/mysql-3.23.51/libexec/mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/usr/local/mysql-3.23.51/var/host.domain.pid' (Errcode: 13) Which is v. confusing..... the daemon is running and works fine ... just no PID file (so the automated shutdown script won't work etc). Getting there (slowly) Regards, Mark -----Original Message----- From: Mark Gillett [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 5:26 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: problem starting mysqld on Solaris 2.8 (source distribution) Hi All (Gerald), Not sure why that should make a difference as the daemon is trying (it claims) to write to /usr/local/mysql/var.
