If this is the first time u r installing mysql, then,
rpm -i mysqlxxxx.rpm.
If u r updating, then
rpm -u mysqlxxx.rpm should do it.
The binary install is more optimized and hence is the best way to install
mysql, however, rpm's work fine too.
