In Mysql (http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Date_and_time_functions.html)
funnily enough:

   NOW()     or    SYSDATE()

will return what you want.

Subject: Insert default Date

Hello MYSQL,

  In access Now() as table field default sets the field when a new
  record is created. In SQL Server there is getdate() & suser_sname()

  Is there an equivalent for MySQL?
