I'm still not getting a mysql prompt to login to. I've tried what was suggested below, but I'm not sure what it does and I searched for that directory and could not find a TMPDIR.
If I try loging in under Root or as a user by typing mysql I get an error message: command not found, but the mysql daemon is running. Do I need to link some files from /usr/local/MySQL to /bin?
