If this could help to analyse the problem, when I try to create a password this is the message I get

[root@edwinraj bin]# /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'simple'
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/mysql.sock' exists!

Hello Friends,

I have installed mysql version 3.23.52 binary file. The installation went well without any errors but when I type mysql in the command prompt I get this error. Can someone help me fix this. Am using red hat 6.2 version
