Question about mysql4

Hi,

Can someone help on this question?

I have downloaded and intalled succesfully mysql-max 4.0.4. However, when I checked the information I stored via insert statements, I noticed weird characters placed in the positions of letter that have accents. I am storing information in portuguese and the content stored is not exactly what I am putting in my sql statement.

Any suggestion of what it can be?
