I am in college and doing a comparison of Oracle and MySQL (term paper). One of the items that must be included is whether or not they support user defined data types. What I found on the web is below this my name and discusses Oracle8, which would indicate the article is old. Has anything changed with the newer versions of MySQL? Does it support the same items that Oracle does?
I guess, if anything good comes from college, it is the fact that this paper caused me to gain great interest in MySQL and I plan to become certified in it, when the certification is available. Thanks for any help, Phil Special data types (multimedia, etc.) MySQL: None. Packages supporting special data types MySQL: N/A Oracle8: Many DBMS options supporting various special types of data, including full-text search, spatial data and time series (in future versions time series option functionality will be included directly into SQL analytic functions. Possibility of creating new special data types and programmatic support MySQL: No. Oracle8: It is possible to create user-defined complex data types, methods for object types, user-defined functions and SQL operators. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
