some of the gurus (which i'm not) on the list 
will help you find some of the problems.  
however, before you jump into them, remember that 
ms. access is not a database server; it is a 
desktop database manager.  as such, it runs 
without much of a server's overhead even when the 
server is running locally.

(this is not necessarily a derogatory observation 
because i use access for a lot of minor chores, 
but it's not a server.)
