But that isn't a big problem - after new installation copy the data and configuration files into the new server and get going. You don't have to uninstall .3 (hmm.. what major version you might mean?) before installing .4. Don't reinstall into the same directory. If something goes wrong, you can always revert to the previous, working installation.
