The second edition of "MySQL" is supposed to get to the warehouses in
a couple of days, and should be reaching readers by the end of the
month, so I'm releasing the software distribution that acccompanies
the book. A PDF of the revised sample chapter (chapter 6) is available
as well. To get either of them, go to the book's companion web site:

There's a link near the bottom of the page to the preliminary second
edition page, from which you can obtain the software distribution or
the sample chapter. And of course there are links to the booksellers
there, so that you can order several dozen copies. :-)
Yes, the second edition really is 1248 pages, 50% more than the first
edition. Sorry about that.
By the way, this edition's going to be released under the Sams
Publishing imprint rather than by New Riders. New Riders and
Sams are both arms of Pearson, along with Peachpit and others.
New Riders is being absorbed into some of the other imprints.
