Upgrading Red Hat rpms

I have a Red Hat 7.3 box running MySQL 3.23.49 (installed with the Red Hat rpms). I am about to upgrade to 4.0.9 and would prefer using the RPMs from MySQL. My plan was to just un-install the Red Hat rpms and then install the new rpms (after backing everything up first, of course). Is there anything else I should do or look out for?
