this is probably an issue already solved or at least treated on this list - so please forgive.
nevertheless I encountered the error 2013 when i tried to connect from another machine to the machine holding the mysqlserver running with the standard mysql package resp. the updated mysql package and the updated kernel ..2.4.18-24.8.0smp I know a workaround by starting mysql with --skip-name-resolve. This works. I know MySQL from www.mysql.com version 3.23.55. This works too. The first apears to me as an ugly approach, the latter means I have to recompile everything for connectivity of apache/php/mysql, because standard rpm's from RH don't go with this. If anyone knows how to fix this issue with RedHat packages - please drop me a line.
