I'm trying to set up my own web server . . . the typical Linux/apache/perl/php/mysql combination. I've got all these components working *except* that I am unable to connect to a MySQL database from perl or php.

PHP & Perl are working fine with Apache and I can run MySQL commands from the shell. The only thing that isn't working is the perl/php-to-mysql interface. I'm an experienced php/perl/mysql programmer, but this is the first time I've tried my hand at web site administration, so the problem is definitely in the server setup, not in the simple perl/php test scripts I'm running.

I'm sure this is a pretty simple config issue, but I can't figure it out. Any help much appreciated!
