I don't know where the error log is. I used the -l option with
safe-mysqld and this is what I got:

/usr/libexec/mysqld, Version: 3.23.56-log, started with:
Tcp port: 3306  Unix socket: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
Time                 Id Command    Argument
