Hi, I was using a 4.0.13-server and wondering about why LEFT() doesn't take advantage of an index, the way .. LIKE "X%" .. does. I was wondering if there would be any effort in implementing this optimisation, or if people should just be encouraged to use LIKE (as bug #747 mentions)?
