I think that's the most reliable way, imagine you move to a new server or install your software somewhere else . . . I got used to passing unix_time or timestamps to my applications and modify them there, not nice but it works. In php you can use setlocale for time and date functions to get correct values, there might be sth similar in java etc.I suppose I could return the month as a number, and then output the text from that, but this seems a bit tacky!
