There are several good resources for MS SQL. www.sqlmag.com and www.sqlservercentral.com
are the two that I like best. For the logins, what OS are you using? For external users, you will likely need SQL accounts, and if the internal accounts are using an MS OS, you can use their Windows account for better security and easier administration. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "accept reports and applications"?
