my.cnf on Shared Hosting

Hi,

I want "--ansi" option for MySQL setting to ensure ANSI compatibility. Most shared 
hosting providers don't allow access to my.cnf. Is there anyway to do this on the fly 
in my script, PHP/Perl sample would be appreciated.
