Brian, I know that I have been using 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 and when compared to 4.0.x, 4.1.x is much faster for us. We have been pushing over 3000 queries per second with 4.1.1 without any problems. Now we aren't using utf8, but I don't think that would really be the problem.
