an even number of windows.  So one of the few ways to get an even

ages.  What I see as likely candidates are

        (1, 3, 12) and (1, 4, 9).

The above two do not work (as well as a good number of other possibilities) - they are the *only* way to produce their sum under the conditions of the problem, which means that the information about the existence of the eldest would not have been required to figure out the ages.
