the mysql group has every permission possible for that directory,
and I installed the binary, not rpm. To be honest, i dont know the difference, so I went back and looked at the dl path I took.... I saw the difference in file names for rpm and binary, my file ended it .tar.gz

Try /var/lib/mysql/data

This is most likely a permissions issue. Make sure that the mysql user and
group have Ownership (read, write, execute, search) to /var/lib/mysql.

This might also be because you installed the RPM instead of the binary. Just
a thought.
