I'd be interested in this - currently I have 284 episodes of The Simpsons
recorded which I haven't gotten around to organising...

Here's what I've got, not sure how much of it is new.  Basically it reads all the recorded files from the db and then creates symbolic links in /var/video/links/  (we store our recordings in /var/video).  Also is will update the season episode data in the db.
