Even though using the G2 remote protocol would require more work, I believe that this is the way to go as it is designed for this sort of thing and would allow us to do things like add images to Gallery from a card reader in a frontend. ...then again, you are the one putting the effort in to the code at the moment, so consider this an email voicing interest in this feature and support for your efforts.
