This isn't a bad idea. But, I do think that it is better to force the user to set the card up because card enumeration is tricky and prone to error (and imagine what could happen if the detection was wrong). > second, more tightly integrate mythfilldatabase into > mythtv-setup...the > setup tool should be able to know if you're the > backend or not and know when > you last ran mythfilldatabase...and it should let > you run it from the gui. This doesn't work for a lot of people. There are people who need to manually fetch their listings using one of the XMLTV grabbers, and then run mythfilldatabase manually. They typically do this via a script, therefore mythfilldatabase has to be seperate from the backend and mythtv-setup. > also, since myth effectively has its own scheduling > engine (for obvious > reasons), how about making an option to have > mythbackend handle scheduling > mythfilldatabase runs? > I don't know if the backend or frontend handles this, but there is an option in the frontend to enable mythfilldatabase to be run within the context of MythTV. This is in SVN, and I think (but am not 100% sure) that it is in 0.18.1. > those are just two ideas that came to me off the top > of my head. > > > On 1/9/06, Tom E.
