Just a note that I am still seeing the garbled output, with 8699 and  
after transcoding ostensibly good MPEG2 recorded from DVB-T into MPEG4.

I still suspect it is 4:3 recordings which are being affected, I  
don't have many of those (1 in 10) and also since the DVB stream  
switches aspect ratio, what happens seems to depend on whether the  
stream happens to start in 4:3 or 16:9.

Unfortunately this is still a bit speculative at the moment, I'll  
keep some screwy recordings around but otherwise hold back again to  
see if someone else can confirm before investigating further or  
putting this into trac.
