After trying an ATI Radeon 9250, gatos drivers, ATI's own drivers, etc. I finally solved the problem: I returned both cards and bought an nVidia based card. This one: http://evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=064-A8-NV93-LX
It was also cheaper and had rebates.

Unfortunately all the time I wasted on the ATI cards is gone.

More info:

I loaded mythfrontend on my Mac, and I can view previously recorded and live tv! (That is so cool!)

So, looks like I have an X problem. It's running the vesa driver now. Nothing I did can make the ati or radeon drivers work, much less theatre_out. Think I'll go pick up an nVidia card and give it a shot.

Thanks for any advice!

First I want to say thanks to everyone involved with the MythTV application, ivtv, lirc, etc. This is great work you all have done!

Here's a problem I'm having:
If I select watch live TV, or view a recorded TV program, the system locks up solid, and I have to power off and on. Sometimes I get a few frames of video before it locks up. I can run an XTerm and view a .nuv file using mplayer with no problem. The system records fine. Since the system dies hard, I haven't been able to do much troubleshooting on the problem. I haven't seen anything in the logs to help with the problem. I have R'ed every FM I can find, to no avail. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
  JJ
