I bought a shuttle and t.b.h. I wasn't impressed. It looks nice, but
having slaved over it I realised that there was a much better path I
could have taken..

This would have been to setup an machine in a room, or under the stairs
or something, with all the TV feeds and network terminating in there. I
would then use a nice fast machine (probably Gentoo on AMD64) as the
encoder and slap a RAID array with a number of SATA drives in there.

Seeing as space would not be a constraint, I could add a number of cards
on a nice full size, FAST, asus deluxe motherboard.. there would also be
some PVRs in there (one with SVHS for Sky and a DVB-T one for
terrestrial)

In the living/family/bed room I'd have a VIA (epia) based board with
mpeg hardware decompression, possibly booting the device from a
microdrive or compact flash, I'd also choose a nice looking, slimline
and QUIET case. I'd run this as the frontend either over plain cat 5e or
over 802.11g.

This will be my next project..
