i mentioned earlier that i had a backend machine with an i810 board and a 700 mhz celeron. i initially had knoppmyth r4v4 installed and it performed much better than fc2 which it has now. i changed so i could do some cross-compiling for the mvpmc project for the hauppauge mediamvp. the mediamvp is great as a fronted and a bargain at ~$85. see the following link:
http://mvpmc.sourceforge.net/idx.php?pg=screenshots anyway, knoppmyth recording playback starts immediately where fc2 has 1-2 pause with blue screen before playback starts. menus were faster etc. so knoppmyth is probably a much better solution for the underpowered i810 video.
