The fedora core 3 release notes http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc3/x86/ cover how to get the source. It's a fair way along the document, so just search for kernel, and it should be the fourth hit. By the way, if you use the up2date method you need to be running in an X environment rather than just ssh'd in.
