I would go for a 1.5 .
Mine is a (TSOP flashed) 1.0 which is VERY noisy (2 fans, one for case/cpu and one for gpu)
My sisters is a more recent one (not sure, 1.1-1.5?) and is MUCH quieter
1.6 and up seem to have issues with modding

I have a hw modded 1.6 PAL box myself. I have a problem where I only get Linux to give a green screen when I use the SCART connector.
