I read that I should back rev lirc to 0.7.0pre7. I'm trying to figure
out how to right now.

What do you think?

You have no /dev/lirc. They're supposed to be created via udev, not sure
why 
they aren't showing up... You might bounce the box one time and see if 
they're created on reboot.

Needless to say, I have a LOT of updates that need to be done. Only
problem is 
I have zero time to do any of them right now...
