Another possibility might be something like the MythTV Community
which has been discussed from time to time. This is something like
Amazon's "People who purchased this book also purchased XYZ". There
would be some number (presumably) of servers which people could
connect to and upload their recording selections. The server would
match their selections to others and send back some upcoming shows they might
like to watch. These would be recorded on their box. There probably
needs to be some way to include/exclude certain recordings from being
sent (eg. don't upload stuff I record for the kids) and some way to
grade shows which are being uploaded (didn't like this one, liked
this one, etc), and finally some way to grade the suggestions sent
back from the server. If suggestions get consistently poor marks,
adjustments should be made to exclude these sources from future searches.
Some people may only want movie suggestions, others might be open to serial
shows as well.
