AFAIK, there are two ways to do this.

1. Use automatic shutdown. I know this isn't really what you're
looking for, but the effect is similar. This is what I do. My
autoshutdown time is set to 5 mins. When I want to shut down the
machine, I exit the frontend. Assuming no shows are scheduled for
recording within the next 5 mins, the box turns itself off.

2. Add an item to the Myth frontend menu. I don't remember what the
xml file is called, but looking through the archives should yield it.
Anyway, you could add an item to the xml file, and have that menu item
map to whatever shutdown command you prefer (ie. halt, shutdown,
etc...).
