What Linux distribution and Linux distribution version are you using? How you make the /dev permission permanent depends on how the /dev file system is created, and here are at least a few ways that the /dev file system is created.

on my system the user mythtv has no access to /dev/video0 because the permessions for /dev/video0 are:

$ crw------- 1 phil video

so i do as root:
$ chmod go+rw /dev/video0

after that i am happy. but when i boot, the permissions are again

$ crw------- 1 phil video

does anybody know, how i can change the permissions permanantly?

thank you for any hint in advance!
