You have me confinced. I just converted my wife's 3GHz FC2 box to
Gentoo. It's serving as the backend machine. Even that conversion took
a day or two before it was completely done. Compiling Gentoo on the
XBox is probably too much trouble for no real gain. I have no
compelling reason to believe that performance or choice matters much
in this application.

This issue has come up a couple of times so I need to ask about it.
What's so bad about the power getting pulled on an XBox frontend
machine? If that causes me to have to do a reinstall of anything then
it's a big deal. I'm building a system to deploy in Southern
California. I live in Northern California. I ain't willing to drive
down every time there's a power glitch and do 30 minute reinstalls.

We're looking at 1-3 backend machines and maybe 5 front end boxes. It
needs to be very robust and reliable. If it isn't I'd go some othe
direction. That's why I like Linux.

Is there some specific issue about an XBox that makes it far worse
than a standard PC?
