I believe it's todo with using a improper tuner type... but i cant seem to find the correct one it needs.. i gave up on it in the end.. the card itself works fine under windows

hi all,

I just started playing around with mythtv using my spare computer parts. I got everything working but suffer from bad visual quality. I also have an audio-related problem. I need your help.

First of all, here is my setup:

Asus A7S8X-MX (Sis chipset with onboard video 741GX)
- Using X.org "sis" driver with Xv extension enabled
- onboard sound is SoundMax, AC'97 driver
ATI TV-wonder (BT878)
- co-axial cable (TV) input
- internally I used a cdrom audio cable to connect the TV-audio output to
the AUX audio input of the SoundMax
Suse 9.2
I'm watching/using MythTV on computer monitor.

First off, I installed MythTV 0.18 using the RPMs from:
http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/apt/suse/

I proceeded with mythtv-setup, using V4L as the video source. After getting the channels setup (NTSC, us-cable), I can watch TV. However,

1) I only get black and white TV images. The on-screen caption generated by MythTV is in colour,
2) colour-aside, the quality of the image is just plain bad. A lot of noise and flickers. However, if I connect the co-axial cable to a regular TV, the images on TV is very sharp
3) I also have audio sync problem. I played with kmix: if I mute the "aux" input and enable recording on "aux" channel (as the FAQ suggested), I actually don't hear anything at all.
4) lastly, the MythTV screen is too big for my monitor: looks like it isn't getting the screen geometry right and I lose about 1/5 of the mythtv screen. So most of the time the buttons (say, during mythtv-setup) are not visible.

Any help is very much appreciated. I have attached the dmesg portion regarding bttv below.

tia,
