Stefan, Thanks for your reply. I have actually managed to get everything working, using the Plextor TV402U, Mandriva SE and MythTV, and apart from the usual hoops you have to jump through, I think it all works well.
To outline briefly what I needed to do: 1) Used the standard 2.6.11-6mdk kernel and installed kernel-source. 2) Downloaded wis-go7007-linux-0.9.4 from Plextor's site. Compiled this without any difficulty. I did needed to move the installed modules from: '/lib/modules/2.6.11-6mdkcustom/extra' to... '/lib/modules/2.6.11-6mdk'/kernel/3rdparty/plextor' followed by 'depmod -a'. 3) I plugged in the Plextor, manually loaded the device drivers: $ modprobe snd_go7007 go7007 wis_sony_tuner wis_uda1342 wis_saa7115 Also, seems to need the ALSA OSS emulation stuff: $ modprobe snd_pcm_oss 4) At this point, i can record using the gorecord app (I'm in the UK): $ ./gorecord -input 2 -mode pal-i -tvchan europe:27 test.avi 5) For MythTV, I needed to run mythtv-setup and configure the Plextor, used the tuner as input, added the xmltv channels. IMPORTANT: Didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but I needed to add the frequencies for each channel otherwise the Plextor would only tune to the first channel. I did this after running mythfilldatabase and going back to mythtv-setup. For example, in the South West of the UK: Name Channel Number Frequency BBC1 21 471250 BBC2 27 519250 ITV 24 495250 Channel 4 31 551250 6) Ran the backend. Ran the frontend. This is where I was stuck. But you need to setup the recording profiles in the frontent for the Plextor before it will work. I also needed to mess around with the sound for a while (digital output on Asus A78X), but I did get it to work. 7) Watching and recording television works really well. Recorded a 2 hour movie, and playback worked. No problems after using it all weekend. I have noticed the same ioctl errors in my syslog as you had, but this doesn't seem to affect performance. Hope this helps someone... cheers, graham On 6/8/05, Stefan van der Eijk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Graham, > > I managed to get mythtv working with the TV402U, but I stumbled into a > few hurdles too.
