Thanks for the pointer. I double checked that entry in both the mythtv (user for frontend) and made sure it was the same for the root entry. Do I need to nfs mount the location where the master backend mysql.sock is? That doesn't seem right, as the frontend runs perfectly fine on this box. Paul
